One Day, One Test

Well friends, I'm sitting at my kitchen table (aka: my desk), and I should be studying. I seem to be lacking in the motivation department. So what better time to blog! My bags are pretty much packed, and I'm ready to go home! Just one silly little final holding me back to pure Christmas joy and happiness! No worries, it will all be over with tomorrow at 11am!!!!! Hooray!! Do you want to see my cute little precious mutts? The ones that will undeniably be filled with excitement when I step into the house....Oh look at them. Little snuggle buddies. I'm sure Charlie Barnum had to sneak up ever so quietly to obtain that prime snuggle spot up against Bailey. Bailey's probably too tired to sit up and give him the hairy eyeball. Haha!

I would post a picture of my apartment, but I don't want to frighten you, especially around this wonderful time of year. I'm just like my father in that small piles all over the place really do make sense in our heads. Hmm... thankfully I've got no one around to tell me otherwise. It's organized chaos, I promise.

Next blog will come to you from one of the greatest cities in Texas, HOUSTON!!!!

Seriously???

I know, I know. I'm pretty sure I said I would post a bit more frequently than once a semester. Oops! Hey, girl got busy. Anyway, I'm currently in the midst of finals and if you really know me, you know studying is the LAST thing on my mind. I guess I'm a fan of going all hardcore during the semester and doing the least amount of work at the end. It works. If anyone should know it's me. I'm really getting good at this "student" thing. Probably a bit too much for my parent's liking. I'm working on it Mom and Dad.

So 4 more days and I will pack my bags, hop in Cliff, and drive the oh so boring drive back to HOUSTON!! I've had a countdown going for quite some time now. Earliest I can remember was about 54 days. Haha! You do what ya gotta do to get through! I hope everyone is staying warm with this fantastically chilly weather. I'm currently sitting here with frozen toesies. (Yes mom, I do have socks and the heat on...I might have just turned the heat on, but it's working it's magic so no worries.)

A quick list of updates... ready???
  • Attended my first Brad Paisley concert! Love that man's music! Can't WAIT until he plays at the Rodeo!!
  • My precious, adorable, and oh so beautiful Goddaughter turned ONE!! Oh my goodness! I'm so thankful I get to see all of them over the holidays! Gosh I love them!
  • I visited Wimberley, TX and have decided that at some point I must live in a small, quaint town where people really do know each other. LOVE IT! By the way, it's absolutely gorgeous in hill country so get on out there if you haven't been in a while.
  • My crazy, amazing cousin decided to join the MARINES!! Hello, could this girl be any more proud of him?? No way!!
  • Had an absolutely fabulous time at my brother and sister-in-law's place for Thanksgiving!! Everything was mighty tasty and the company was pretty fantastic as well. :)
  • And last but certainly NOT least............I'm going to be an AUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for Ryan and Kellie!! Did I mention I'll pass my pediatrics class with a ridiculously high A and I'm offering my babysitting services right now. Just a heads up!
Y'all are fabulous and don't forget to enjoy the exquisite sights and sounds of the holidays!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Oops!!

Sorry friends! It seems as though I decided to finish last semester, take a break, and abandon this little blog! My sincerest apologies. Anyway, I'm back in CC, going hard in class and clinicals, and ready to get you all up to date.
Oh my goodness, so much has happened since we've last chatted. Where oh where do I begin?? I enjoyed my mini vacation even though it may have started out a bit rough. It definitely had some perks at the end! What else, how about school. This semester I'm taking pharmacology, pediatrics, and med/surg (let's just think of this as adults). I have already finished up my peds rotation, whoa that was fast. In two weeks, I start med/surg and that one won't be half as fun. Ha! I'm still planning on sporting my orange, teddy bear watch. If anything it will brighten up my day. So, now I will walk around a hospital where sea creatures and brightly colored murals aren't covering every inch of wall space. There's no fun in that. It will be an adventure though! I am excited, but I will miss the little kiddos!
Oh! I went to the aquarium here in CC! It was way better than expected! Had a blast and sat in the dolphin show wondering why I never followed my dream to be a dolphin trainer. Hmm?? Wet suit or scrubs. Both pretty comfortable but I do get cold easily so perhaps staying dry is best for me. I went ahead and posted two of my favorite pictures from my iphone during my aquarium adventure! Is that turtle not the cutest little thing you've ever seen?? There's also the beautiful dolphin. What a magnificent creature. This little guy was playing with his toys in the water. They get a bit of play time in their tank before show time. He was having a blast!
Well dear friends, I should be studying. I'm currently leaning over my pharm book to type this update when I should be reviewing for my upcoming test! Oops!

PS...Get excited! I have an important introduction to make in the near future. I'll let your heads think on that one for a while...

Procrastination...or is it motivation??

We all know I should be studying right now, but I'm just really having a tough time today. I think it's the crazy week, and all of the craziness that comes with 24 tightly wound individuals spending too much time together. Either way, I've spent some time today just sort of finding inspiration in other places. So where do I look? YouTube. I'm a pretty big fan of this pastor in Michigan, Rob Bell. I really enjoy and get a lot from his sermons/teachings. I also can't get enough of these little 10 to 15 minute videos he puts together, and thankfully someone has posted some on youtube. No, they shouldn't be posted on there, but hey, I've been appreciating them for the past few days. I do hope to buy the set at some point in the future. I'll wait for the job with the paycheck first. To get to the point, I was watching this Nooma (that's what they call the videos) and it just really hit me. I won't go into it, and just throwing one quote on here won't do much for you either, but this is a blog and you never know what will pop up. Here is the line that I already have printed out and posted in my apartment. I'll also give you a bit more dialogue after the quote so you kind of get a better feeling with it.

"There's nothing you could ever do that would make Me love you less."

"May you stop hiding under the covers. May you let God pull the covers back. May you embrace Him. May your whole life become a response to the truth that you've always been loved, You are loved, and you always will be loved. And may you know, may you know deep in the depths of your soul, there's NOTHING you could ever do to make Him love you less. NOTHING you could ever do to make God love you less. NOTHING you could ever do to make Him love you less. Nothing. Nothing."

Goodnight dear friends!

It's Daddy's Day!!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DADDY!!!!!!!
Holy moly, do you have the world's greatest dad? ...No, you don't, because I DO!!! You're talking to the biggest Daddy's Girl ever! Look it up in Webster's. There's a picture there to prove it! ;) This just might be the first Father's Day that I'm not around my Daddy! Grr!! Oh and did I mention he's hanging out at the lake this weekend! He actually has a day off, shocker I know! This man is a peddle to the metal kind of guy. As he likes to say, he works hard and plays hard! Let me just say, I spent one week with him at work, and it about killed me. I probably shouldn't have admitted it but it's true. Since I'm trying to keep this thing relatively anonymous, I'll post of a few favorite pictures of where Dad's face isn't showing too much! Haha! Here's my dad shocking us all by making it all the way to the top! I'm pretty sure we didn't even think he'd attempt this!First of all, you should know that when my dad enjoys something, he wants to get involved in it. If he sees something that isn't right, he stands up for it. If he sees you hurting, he'll comfort you. If you tell him there's no way, he'll figure a way. If you lose faith, he'll help you find it. Oh, and if there's a cruise, he's on it! :) My Dad is the greatest!! Happy Father's Day Daddy!! I LOVE YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH!! Thank you for being the best role model a girl could ever imagine!! You will always be my prince charming! (I have the picture to prove it!) Oh and of course I had to include a picture of my dad in his happy place...boarding a cruise ship! Welcome aboard! Happy Trails!!

It's all about the kibble baby!

I probably shouldn't say my life revolves around my daily kibble intake, but in a way it really does. I get great joy out of eating, I look forward to dessert, and I have an odd ball palate. It's true. Oh, and I might be the biggest snacker you've ever met. ...Eat, Eat all day long..Eat Eat Eat while I sing this song!... (It is fun to sing the song while making your snack, go ahead, give it a try. Take a break from reading this post, sing the song, and make yourself a little snackie. Alright, my week was filled with a dumb test, and yes it was just plain dumb. You know something's not right when your professor says to your class, "I know the test doesn't judge how well you know the material." Did I miss something in school along the way, but I'm pretty sure that's the point of a test. So, yea, already counting down the days until August and my little break! Woohoo!! The point of that little rant was to just let you know that I was basically in school, or at home readying and studying. FYI: Next week is packed with three tests and a two projects, so the next post will not be any earlier than next Friday.

Since I didn't have many opportunities to whip out my camera in class and you've already seen my study space, I figured you could check out some of my favorite meals, snacks, and beverages. These little babies have kept me rip roaring and ready to take on the next adventure....ehh ok maybe just next chapter. First let me introduce you to a very delicious and tasty treat that I discovered as a result of my craziness for coupons. These tasty treats aren't super good for you, but they kind of taste like churros without the feeling of grease all over your lips. And none of the guilt! My warning to you though, be careful because it's so easy to eat the entire bag and not even realize it! Oops! Next up, the beloved spinach smoothies. Yes, spinach in my smoothies. We all know spinach is stellar for us, but sometimes you're just burned out with little veggie. That lead me to throwing some in my smoothie! Try it, you'll like it. You can add as much or as little as you'd like. If you really don't like spinach just add one handful and you won't even taste it! Give it a whirl! Smoothies are so filling to me so I added a salad with bits of turkey to balance out my meal. Next up on the list, my school day snackies. Let me just say, this is not what I bring every day. Most days I'm luck to grab my Fruit-a-Bu, Kashi bar, and my water. However, my Mondays are just straight through 8 to 5 so I need to be better about snacks and lunch. Here's what I had this week! Don't you love those FitFresh containers. I've fallen in love with them. What you can't see is the cool lid that goes on top of my veggies/cheese/and applesauce. It's a lid with a little frozen ring that clips in to keep my kibble nice and chilled until I get around to it. GENIUS!! Oh, and I can't say enough about almond butter and this new organic strawberry jam. Holy cheese!! It's definitely like a party in my mouth!! I highly recommend you add almond butter to your grocery list. It will change your life. Warning, almond butter is more expensive than peanut butter, but it's one of those things that's well worth it. I'm not a fan of spending money. Oh geez I hate clothes shopping, ask my mother. But when it comes to food, I really think it's important to not skimp on everything. Haha, I know where to shop for things. I know what store to find the cheapest almond butter, greek yogurt, bulk oats, etc. I'm a bit nerdy in that department. I probably should have seriously considered culinary school, because all aspects of food are intriguing to me! I'm still working on my pitch to Food Network! Enough blabbering, next up is lunch. Hello gorgeous! Listen to this combo: Ezekiel english muffin, fresh slice of cheddar cheese, half of an avocado, and my favorite Morningstar veggie burger! Woowee!! It was DEVINE! Ok and the last two aren't as exciting, but I did want to show off the most amazing cups ever. I love, love, LOVE cups that don't sweat. This cup is big, doesn't sweat, and comes in many beautiful and tropical colors. Does it get any better than that? Nope. Last, but surely not least, my end of the week meal. When I just have to follow what my palate is craving and not stop to think about the crazy combination that may appear in front of you. That's all I'll say about this meal. It was dinner, and there was spinach in the smoothie. PS Don't you just love lima beans? What a great little bean. Well, friends, I need to go figure out my plan of attack for this fun filled weekend of studying and hopefully get a good run in. Haven't had one all week! ICK! Before I part, I will provide you with some fabulous fun filled, food filled movie quotes!

“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.” Elf! ( I'm pretty sure I'm part elf.)

“You stay away from that turkey! It’s got an hour to cook…you’ll get worms!” A Christmas Story

“Yogurt! Yogurt! I hate Yogurt! Even with strawberries” Spaceballs

Dr. Egon Spengler: Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.
Winston Zeddemore: That's a big Twinkie.

Another week...

Well hello friends! How are you doing this lovely Saturday afternoon? My morning has started off a bit crazy and frantic. Mom and dad had to head out by 11ish to get back home, so of course with trying to finish up stuff around here and packing the car there was a bit of chaos. Ok, so get excited because I've got quite a few pictures to tell you my little story! Let's get started. Honestly, my days are pretty much the same...class, lab, or both followed by studying and eating. Mom and dad had lots of time for catching up on their sleep and exploring this lovely destination! I don't have many pictures of their adventures but I can share with you a few of my study area as the week progressed.Aren't they so exciting?!? Hahaha! Mighty Leaf tea has been keeping me awake and making me feel all warm and fuzzy. It's truly delicious tea! If you want to try my favorite I'll send you a sample! I bought the economy size box from the company. Hey, it was cheaper that way! Ok, now I have to show you how my study space looked by the end of the week. Notice the bottle of vitamins and the diet Root Beer! You do what you can... Although, there were funny moments throughout the week thanks to mom, dad, char and lou! Speaking of the pups, check out my little sweet pea. We bought him a new can of tennis balls and of course that's ALL he can think about. If you know Charlie you know how psychotic he can become when he knows there's a ball in the house. Anyone, here's the story. Mom had hidden a ball at the top of the closet while Charlie wasn't looking earlier in the day but she had forgotten it was up there. A little later in the day when Char was craving a ball, he started whining and pawing at the closet door. Dad tried to explain to Char that there was no ball so finally he lifted Charlie up to the top shelf of the closet and let him sniff around. And what does Charlie find in my bike helmet....yes a hidden ball!!! So, enjoy the picture of my little monster! He's got the best sniffer in the world! I can't post a picture of Char Bar without a fun picture of Lucy too! So here's a precious moment I saw as I walked into the living room las night. Lou and Dad were catching up on some quality time in front of the tv. Pardon the tv stand, it's the last thing in the apartment that's a bit out of place. I'm working on it, very very slowly though. Ha! I'm not too concerned about it. Altright, but the funniest pictures come from mom, dad, char, and lou's trip to the beach. I must apologize, I do not have all of the pictures of the dogs frolicking in the ocean, but I do have some of the four mutts as they walked in my front door and right to the bath tub. Sorry, but they were stinky and wet and they all needed baths ASAP!! Here are few pics of the windblown survivors! I'm pretty sure you can smell them in this picture! Haha, sorry guys! Although, I wish I could have been stinky and and windblown instead of alone with my textbook and tea. Grr!! Sweet Bailey, look at this picture of her getting all of the salt water off of her! By the way, I was told she was the adventurous one running in the water, while Char was the baby frightened of the mini waves. Charlie's all talk! Well, I know these are just little snapshots of the week, but they're my little updates and I hope you enjoy them! I've probably spent enough time procrastinating now and should get down to business! Soon I'll be getting the call from the gang as they pull into the driveway at home! So sad they're gone! Although....they did leave me with some AMAZING goodies!!! I can't tell you how happy they make me! First of all, I have little stickies and notes everywhere which make me smile! I also have a Barbie Island Princess coloring book!!! I'll take a picture at some point and post it because it will make you smile! Last and certainly not least, my dear sweet mother loaded me up with food. When I say loaded up with food, I mean it! I probably won't need to buy kibble for the next year! It's beyond amazing!!!! If you know me though, you know how much I snack and eat throughout the day! I guess I'll need some visitors back to help with groceries and laundry maybe??? Hint hint, nudge nudge!! :) Well friends, I'll leave you with two pictures of my beautiful green and yellow flowers and my counter covered with kibble n' bits!!! Yay!!

I'm still alive!

Sorry about the gap between posts! The first week has been rather busy and since I'm already deprived of sleep, I apologize but I wasn't sacrificing anymore for the blog. Alright, instead of boring you with multiple paragraphs of me blabbering on and on, I'm going to break it down to little bullets. Random thoughts from the week...
  • I'm still in love with my morning drive. Pure Happiness.
  • The humidity here is unbelievable. You can only imagine what it does to my hair. However, at nights there is the amazing breeze!
  • The person who lives above has severe OCD issues. They have vacuumed their apartment three times in the past week. Seriously. I just wish they'd go one flight of stairs south and come clean my place. I'd gladly let them in.
  • There is a license plate from every state in the continental US in my parking lot. Thanks to the Navy base. On that note, I have never seen so many flight suits in my life. Hello boys! Haha! No, haven't found anything intriguing here, bummer.
  • There was a severe thunderstorm yesterday, and the lights went in and out all night. Guess my power isn't going to be very reliable during storms.
  • And last but certainly not least, my mother deserves the biggest THANK YOU!! She has done my laundry and has actually cooked during her stay here. For those of you that know her, this is not her idea of fun. (I think we've run out of places to get to-go! Not too many good to-go places. Although, I am comparing this place to my hometown, haha not very fair of me!)
I did take pictures this week! Hooray!! You must see this picture of my mom taking care of her babies. She likes to make sure they're in tip top shape! Such a wonderful mom, eh?
I love the fact that Charlie just rolls over when he sees a stethoscope. Ha! Poor dog! He doesn't seem to mind though. I'm pretty sure he just likes the attention. Oh my goodness, there's this gated area at my complex for dogs to go off their leashes and just RUN. Let's just say, Charlie has a brand new tennis ball and absolutely adores the play area!! Lou just wanders around and I'm not sure what she's thinking. Ok, enough about the dogs. Ah! I almost forgot! School...guess you might want to know about it. Well, to make it brief...the reading has swamped me and spending all day in class is a bit much. But, I love it. The people in the class are just incredibly diverse, and we really keep each other sane. We laugh quite a bit, and today I found out I'm still not comfortable with the Sim doll. (I'll post about him/her later.) He's got a strong pulse which is a plus, but he's a mouth breather and boy is he loud! I've asked him to quiet down a bit but he doesn't seem to respond appropriately. Crazy guy! Teehee, it's funny if you know what I'm talking about. I'll soon inform you!

And it begins...

First of all, no pictures today. Sorry about that. Today's post will be pretty short anyway. Started off today on an early adventure going to church, which we found about 30 minutes after it had already started. Oops! Might I add, that little country road was not labeled, so I still have no idea what Google maps was talking about. Oh well, mom was a trooper and we decided to drive back to the apartment where I started on some reading. Yes, it has begun. I'm back to having my head stuck in a book for the next year. Don't worry, my head will pop out from time to time for clinicals. So, I worked on some reading before mom and I were off to 5pm mass. We went to this quaint little church. The church decorations made me feel just like I was back in Mexico. I loved it so so much. If you're not catholic, you'd probably be a bit uncomfortable with the little altars. Oh, but it was lovely. A new and wonderful experience. :)

After church, mom and I had to run to HEB for a few little things. Mom grabbed dinner at Taco C while I was psyched to get home to one of my Kashi dinners! Also, the Amy's burritos are only $1.88 here!!!! Eeee!! That makes me very happy! If you've never tried them, you should. Oh dear yum! Only waiting 30 minutes for my kibble to digest, I was a bit too quick to get to the workout room for a itty bitty 20 minute jog. Cramps galore, but that was my own dumb fault! Ha! Still felt awesome to work up a good sweat! Two showers and one ironed set of scrubs later, mom and I are camped out on the couch watching a movie before I'm off to bed. Early morn tomorrow! First day of school!!

Seagulls, Seagulls Everywhere!

Oh I do love seagulls. I love seeing the seagulls flutter around Target and along my drive to school in the morning! The little squacks bring a smile to my face.

So today, uhhh... slept in a little too late for my liking but that's ok. After getting ready, mom and I were off to the bookstore. Mom checked out the clearance tshirts as I loaded stacks and stacks of books on the counter. Ick! Way too many books for two months but hey, it's all good! I do love learning! Maybe I'll post a picture of all of my books later, but I don't have one right this minute. However, I do have a picture of my big lunch/dinner at my favorite...IHOP!! Yummy in my tummy!! I'm sure the picture is makind you drool! No? Maybe it's because I've already stolen a few bites of the eggs and pancakes? Ehh. You're missing out. After the beloved IHOP meal, mom and I definitely needed something to help the pancakes and eggies work their way down. The pups were quick to give us ideas. Charlie Barnum suggested a walk along the water. Who can turn that down? Not but 10 minutes later, the dogs had their leashes on, I had my camera, and mom had her visor. We were ready to roll! Oh was it just lovely outside. I truly am I girl that needs to be by the ocean. I'm not scared of the wicked high humidity! Bring it on! In fact, I've only used the Chi once since I've been here. Scandalous I know, but I just let the wild woman hair go! Ok, enough about my hair, back to the walk. The dogs happily sniffed every blade of grass and mom and I chatted as the sun began to set. Come on....does it get any better than that?? No, no it doesn't. Oh my goodness, I almost forgot to tell you guys about Charlie's new love. Yep, that's right Charlie has found a new passion. Skateboarding. Maybe he get's it from his mother? I've always wanted to learn just the basics of skateboarding or longboarding. Anyway, he loved watching the skateboarders do their little tricks. I, on the other hand, sat their annoyed that there wasn't a single boy with a helmet on in the skate park. Not one helmet! Ugh! Sorry, but I had to vent on that one. I guess this is a good time to mention that I did have a relaxing evening with mom, Char, and Lou. I snacked, of course, then watched a pretty bad movie, but my super amazing cup of tea and the good company completely made up for the movie! Ha! Enjoy the last picture of Charlie with his fluffies just swaying in the salty breeze!

"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more."

I kid you not, I leaned over to Charlie and recited this quote to him. This place is definitely not where I grew up. That is for sure! They are the most passive drivers ever here!!! They don't yield, they stop. Yes, they will stop to allow you to exit off of the freeway. I felt so terrible the other day, because I have definitely not been doing that. Where I come from, the yield sign really doesn't mean much. I'm adjusting though. Next up, the boxes are all unpacked! HOORAY!!! Oh, and the refrigerator and pantry are all stocked! So you should definitely come visit now! Let me back track though. Wednesday started off with a visit from the cable guy, yes it's official I have cable. (Another reason for y'all to come visit!) Then, I was all ready to go for the big grocery shop, but a storm decided to roll in. Let me just add a tid bit in here, I was told by some natives here that they rarely get true rainstorms but rather misty days. Needless to say, it rained for over an hour. I was upset for the rain postponing my schedule for about 10 seconds. I just love a rain. I took a picture of course! As the rain tapped on my windows, I organized my grocery list and made sure I had all of my coupons in order. I will admit, I have been collecting coupons for a awhile now just waiting for this moment. Ha! I'm truly a nut! But a smart nut! Well Friends, I'm getting sleepy and since I've got my orientation tomorrow morning I should probably pack my snacks up tonight and get to bed!!

By the way, my internet will officially be up and running for business tomorrow at 8pm!! Reliable internet will definitely lead to more frequent posting...hopefully!

“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”

Nothing like a good quote from Dr. Seuss to kick things off around here! Seriously, few things make me happier than a good book by dear Theodor Seuss Geisel. Alright, let's try to get to the real point of this first post. The big M-O-V-E!
Yep, took place yesterday. Everything went better than planned, minus the trip to the vet. The Uhaul truck was able to exceed 70 mph, it did not smell like a high school boy's gym shoes, and the air conditioning system was actually too cold at times. Did I mention I didn't actually have to drive the Uhaul, and yet it still was my biggest concern?? The world's greatest mother (seriously) drove the beast over 220 miles. Yes, I know, I'm one very lucky girl. Anyway, the truck was strategically packed by two very wonderful, amazing, spectacular men, thank you guys, and then Mom and I hit the road the next morning.
Only an hour and a half late with our start time, not too bad for us. I had CharBar and Lou in my car and mom had her iPod and the beast, aka the Uhaul.  We arrived at our destination much earlier than planned and got right to business unloading some of the delicate items...the precious electronics. Humidity + Heat = 2 Sweaty ladies! Excluding the one hour break we took running Charlie to the vet, every box was stuffed into my humble abode by 5 pm! No worries, Charlie will be fine in a few days after his meds start kicking in. (Nice timing Charlie) Exhausted and content with everything we had accomplished for the day, Mom and I drove around looking for food after dropping off the truck. We settled for Cracker Barrel, mostly because it wasn't fast food and was conveniently located on our way home. The kibble refueled us enough to grab some waffles at HEB and head home to shower and flop in bed. To end a perfect day, we fell asleep watching You've Got Mail. One of my favorite movies of all time! So on that note, I'll close with a You've Got Mail quote, followed by a precious picture of pathetic Charlie at the vet. Can't think of a better way to close the first post!

Joe Fox:   Oh yeah. No competing with that.
